This article is geared at encouraging us to speak out about ourselves and about our businesses. I think that an individual is best at selling him/herself than any other person will do, even if you will employ the services of a public relations or social media
personnel to help publicize you more, I feel that everyone should sell him/herself to one’s community first, they say charity begins at home.
A friend recently recommended me for a training that was organized by Google for journalists, social media personnel and bloggers for the upcoming elections. Google Nigeria deemed it fit to organize a workshop for journalists and social media personnel in poll reporting for the upcoming Nigeria elections
My friend told me she recommended me because she had been following up my social media ‘activism’ and my blogging, so she felt an individual like me would benefit from the training. When my friend sought my consent about the training, I was surprised because I didn’t even think my ‘small’ social media and blogging activities could make someone notice me so as to recommend me for such a benefitting workshop. I was very grateful for it.
I was even more grateful after the workshop because the training was full of insights, knowledge and information and to think it came on a platter of gold at absolutely no cost to me. Even some paid trainings that I have attended don’t give back so much to participants. Aside the training which transcends election reporting, the freebies/goodies we were given are very lovely (customized Google laptop bag, flash drive, notepad, pen, T-Shirt, power bank) the lunch was superb :). I am particularly thrilled at it all because I just commercialized my social media management business and I just recently launched my blog , the social media tools taught at the workshop would highly enhance these 2 skills of mine and would take my social media management business and blogging to the next level.
I know quite a lot of people who hardly market themselves on social media especially small and medium scale business owners. I always tell people that social media is about one of the easiest and cheapest means to sell one’s self or one’s business. People on your network should know what product or service you are selling or rendering (I am not asking that you become a pest to your network by overly marketing your business to them).
It is said that your network is your net worth, use it wisely especially via social media. You never know when you’ll get that big break or that recommendation that would give your business a boost!
I deeply thank Google for this life changing experience.
A big shout out to my dear friend, Tayo Akinoso for this Google training recommendation and invitation. God bless you and enrich your business too.
PS: Sorry to bother you with my story, I just like to share some of these my experiences with people just incase someone can learn a thing or two from them.
