President Muhammadu Buhari visited his farm in Daura, Katsina on Saturday, June 20th 2015, the day set aside to mark World Refugees Day.
Some Nigerians on Saturday criticized President Muhammadu Buhari for visiting his farm in Daura, Katsina State on World Refugees Day. This came after the PresidentÔÇÖs Twitter handle and that of his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity shared pictures of him on his farm.
In as much as I am not against the PresidentÔÇÖs visit to his farm, I am not in support of such visit on a day set aside to mark World Refugees Day. Considering the high rise of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in our country, a president should have tilted more towards commemorating the day. He could have chose another day to visit his farm, also I feel a visit to his personal farm should not be so circulated on social media by his media personnel because really, the average man isnÔÇÖt necessarily interested in seeing his presidentÔÇÖs farm. Such visit should be treated as private, if it was treated so perhaps we wouldnÔÇÖt have had this brouhaha and reactions from people.
The media team of the president has to know what to put out for public consumption.
Meanwhile, I like the fact that he runs a farm though, for me it speaks volume of his agricultural instinct. There is a lot we can gain from agriculture as a nation.
