Today is #PersonsDay! 2018 marks 89 years since women were recognized as “persons” in Canada, due to the relentless campaigning of 5 women known as the Famous Five: Emily Murphy, Henrietta Muir Edwards, Louise McKinney, Nellie McClung and Irene Parlby.
I got to know about this history last November in Ottawa, Ontario when my friends took me on a tour of Ottawa. These sculptures can be found near the East Block on Parliament Hill in Ottawa.
Created in 2000, this monument is a tribute to the Famous Five: Irene Parlby, Louise McKinney, Nellie McClung, Emily Murphy and Henrietta Muir Edwards, all from Alberta.
